When God Feels Far

đź“– SCRIPTURE FOCUS

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18

 Devotional Message – Day 1

There are moments—quiet, aching moments—when God feels far away. You might be doing all the right things: praying, attending church, reading your Bible. But inside, it feels like silence. Like your prayers are hitting the ceiling. Like you’re alone.

First, let this truth settle deep in your spirit: God has not moved. Our feelings may fluctuate, but His presence is constant. He promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” That wasn’t conditional. That wasn’t seasonal. That was a covenant.

Spiritual dryness or distance doesn’t mean you’ve failed—it often means you’re in a season of invitation. God is drawing you deeper. Not into performance, but into presence. Not into doing more, but into simply being with Him.

Sometimes, we confuse closeness with emotion. But God’s nearness is not based on goosebumps, tears, or the perfect worship set. He is near because He is faithful, not because we feel Him.

If your heart feels distant today, don’t rush past that feeling. Bring it to Him. Sit with Him in the stillness. Say, “Lord, I miss You.” That alone is proof your heart is still soft. And He responds to soft hearts.

You are not lost. You are not forgotten. You are not too far gone.
He is close—even in the silence. Especially in the silence.

Reflection Prompt

What has made you feel distant from God lately? Be honest with yourself — write it down and ask Him to meet you there.

Prayer

Lord, I don’t always feel You, but I choose to trust that You are near. Help me sit in Your presence even when it’s quiet. Teach me to trust You beyond my emotions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closer Still – Action Step

Take 5 minutes today to sit quietly without distractions. Whisper to God, “I’m here,” and let His peace settle over you in the stillness.
