Day 24 โ€“ Finding God in the Ordinary
โœฆ Scripture Focus

Pray continually. โ€” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NIV)

Devotional Message

Those moments that seem too ordinary to be spiritual โ€” washing the dishes, driving to work, folding laundry, waiting in line โ€” might be some of your greatest opportunities for closeness with God.

๐Ÿ“œ Brother Lawrence โ€” a 17th century monk

He was not a great preacher or a famous theologian. He was a cook โ€” spending his days peeling potatoes and washing pots. He became famous for one thing: practicing the presence of God in every ordinary moment. He wrote that there is no distinction between the time of prayer and the time of work โ€” because in every action, however small, he could turn his heart toward God.

He talked to God while he cooked. He invited God's presence into the mundane. And he found, over time, that God was not only in the chapel โ€” but in the kitchen.

Pray continually means...
โ†’

"Good morning, Lord," before you reach for your phone

โ†’

"Thank You," when the sun hits just right on your drive home

โ†’

Inviting Him into the meeting, the hard conversation, the long silence

โ†’

"What do You think about this?" before a decision instead of after

God is not waiting for you to get into a chapel.

He's already in your kitchen. He's already in your commute.

He's already in the middle of your Monday.

The question is whether you'll turn toward Him there.

๐Ÿค Reflection Prompt

Which ordinary moments in your day could become spaces for prayer or connection with God? What would change about your daily life if you consistently invited Him into those moments?

๐Ÿ™ Today's Prayer

Lord, I want to find You in the ordinary. Not just in the sacred spaces, but in the kitchen, the car, the quiet minutes between tasks. Teach me to pray continually โ€” to turn my heart toward You in every moment of this day. Amen.

โœ… Closer Still โ€” Action Step

Choose three ordinary moments in your day and practice turning your heart toward God in each one. Even just a word. Even just a glance of the soul. Practice the presence.
