“Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life.” – Psalm 23:6 (NIV
Devotional Message- Day 8
We often think our spiritual growth depends on how hard we chase God.
How consistent we are. How passionate we feel. How committed we stay.
But what if, before you ever started chasing Him—He was already chasing you?
Psalm 23 doesn’t say we follow God’s goodness.
It says His goodness follows us. The word “follow” here in Hebrew actually means to pursue, to chase down, to overtake.
That means even in the moments you’re distracted, distant, or doubting—He’s still coming after you.
God isn’t waiting for you to clean yourself up before He approaches.
He’s not measuring your quiet time before He engages.
He is the Shepherd who leaves the 99 to find the one.
You.
His pursuit isn’t desperate. It’s divine.
He pursues you because He loves you, not because you earned it.
So stop running from the voice that’s calling you back.
Stop hiding from the love that knows your name.
Stop striving to reach a God who is already reaching for you.
Reflection Prompt
When have you felt like God was pursuing you—especially when you weren’t pursuing Him? What would it look like to stop and let Him catch you?
Prayer
Lord, I’ve been chasing after peace, answers, and stability—but You’ve been chasing after me. Help me stop running and surrender to Your love. Thank You for never giving up on me, even when I gave up on You. Amen.
Closer Still – Action Step
Take a walk or find a quiet spot today. Reflect on moments when God showed up for you before you ever sought Him. Then, thank Him—out loud—for coming after your heart.
