Staying Closer for Life
This is not the end of something. This is the beginning of what you've been building.
Listen to Today's Devotional
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus. โ Hebrews 12:1โ2 (NIV)
Spiritual life is not a sprint. It's a marathon โ with hills and valleys, long stretches of flat terrain, moments of wind at your back, and moments when you're just grinding forward because you know you can't stop.
What the writer of Hebrews is describing is not a performance โ it's a posture. A long-term orientation toward God. Eyes fixed on Jesus.
So how do you sustain closeness to God for life โ not just for a devotional series, not just during seasons when you feel motivated?
Rhythms flex with your season. Rules break under pressure. Find what keeps you genuinely connected and build that into your life in a sustainable way.
You were not designed to run this race alone. The cloud of witnesses isn't just watching โ it's encouraging. Find people running in the same direction and run together. Your faith will be strengthened by theirs in the hard seasons.
Don't make the falling a bigger deal than the returning. Repentance is not a one-time event. It's a posture of ongoing return.
Above all: keep your eyes on Jesus.
Not your spiritual performance. Not your favorite preacher.
Not your past season of closeness.
Jesus โ who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Always approachable. Always present. Always for you.
What has been the most significant shift in your relationship with God over these 29 days? What one practice or truth do you most want to carry with you going forward?
Jesus, fix my eyes on You โ not on my progress, not on my past, not on the race ahead. Just You. Thank You for running with me. For the mercy that kept me here. Help me live close to You โ not just for 30 days, but for the rest of my life. Amen.
Write down the one spiritual rhythm you most want to protect going forward โ the practice that has meant the most to you in these 30 days. Commit to it.
Not as a rule. As a lifeline.Let's Talk
