Devotional Message- Day 13
Many of us grew up believing that a relationship with God meant obeying the rules, going to church, reading the Bible, and doing what’s right. And while those things matter, they’re not the point.
God didn’t send Jesus to start a religion.
He sent Jesus to restore a relationship.
Jesus didn’t say, “Follow these rituals.”
He said, “Follow Me.”
He didn’t say, “You are My workers.”
He said, “You are My friends.”
Religion says, “Do more to earn God’s favor.”
Relationship says, “You already have it—now walk with Me.”
Rules can guide behavior, but they can’t transform the heart.
Only intimacy with the Father can do that.
So today, step out of checklist Christianity.
Trade duty for devotion.
Move from head knowledge to heart connection.
Let go of religious pressure—and lean into relational closeness.
Reflection Prompt
Have you ever confused following rules with growing closer to God? What does true relationship with Him look like for you?
Prayer
Jesus, I don’t want to just follow rules—I want to know You. Strip away my religious routines and stir fresh desire for connection. Teach me how to walk in relationship, not just ritual. Amen.
Closer Still – Action Step
Ask yourself: “If I didn’t feel pressure to be religious, how would I connect with God today?” Then go do *that*. A walk. A song. A conversation. A quiet moment. Let it be relational, not ritualistic.
