You don't know what today holds. Maybe you woke up this morning with that familiar weight sitting on your chest. The uncertainty. The unanswered questions. The situation that still hasn't resolved itself no matter how many times you've prayed about it.

You're stepping into something and you can't see what's on the other side.

Here's what God needs you to know before you take another step.

He's already there.

Not catching up to you. Not waiting to see how things unfold. He went ahead. He's already standing in the middle of whatever you're walking toward — and He's holding it.

He Goes Before You

Moses spoke these words to Joshua right before one of the most terrifying assignments of his life. Lead an entire nation into unknown territory. No map. No guarantee. Just a promise.

And the promise wasn't "it will be easy."

The promise was I will be there.

I know what it feels like to step into the unknown with nothing but that promise.

During my years of military service, we had something called a PCS — a Permanent Change of Station. Orders would come down and just like that, you were moving. New base. New city. Sometimes a new state or even a new country. And most of the time you had no idea what was waiting on the other side.

I won't pretend it wasn't scary. It was.

New place. New people. No familiar faces. No idea what the next chapter would look like. But somewhere in the middle of that fear I learned to pray a simple prayer that has stayed with me ever since.

God, go ahead of me. Work out the details. I don't know — but I trust that You do.

That's still the promise today. God isn't promising you a smooth road. He's promising you His presence on every road — the smooth ones, the broken ones, the ones you never saw coming.

He goes before you. That means nothing you face today is a surprise to Him. He's already walked it. He already knows the outcome. And He's already working in it. You may be uncertain — but He is not. He has it all worked out.

He Will Never Leave You

Read that again slowly.

Never leave. Never forsake.

Not when you make mistakes. Not when your faith feels small. Not when you're too tired to pray anything eloquent. Not when you've asked the same question for the hundredth time.

Never.

That word is doing a lot of work in this verse and God meant every syllable of it. There is no version of your life where you are alone in it. There is no valley dark enough, no season long enough, no failure deep enough to separate you from His presence.

He is with you. Right now. In this.

"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

Deuteronomy 31:8

Do Not Be Afraid

God doesn't say "don't be afraid" because there's nothing to be afraid of.

He says it because He knows there is — and He's telling you that His presence is bigger than whatever you're facing.

Fear says: I'm going into this alone.

Faith says: He already went ahead.

Today, whatever you're stepping into — take a breath. Remind yourself that you are not the first one through that door. God has already been there. And He is right beside you as you walk through it.

You don't have to know what's coming. You just have to trust the One who does.

You are not alone. You have never been alone. And you never will be.

✦ A Prayer for Today ✦

Lord, I don't know what's ahead of me today. But I'm choosing to trust that You do. Go before me. Work out the details I can't see. Quiet the fear in my chest and replace it with the kind of faith that doesn't need all the answers — just Your presence. I trust You.Amen.

Reflection
1
What situation in your life right now feels most uncertain — and how does knowing God has already gone before you change the way you see it?
2
Is there a fear you've been carrying that you need to hand back to God today? What would it feel like to pray "God, go ahead of me — I don't know but I trust that You do" and actually mean it?
