💭 Commentary
Peter is writing to believers who never met Jesus in person. They didn't walk with Him in Galilee, hear His voice teaching, or watch Him perform miracles. They came to faith through the testimony of others, just like you. And yet, Peter says something remarkable: you love Him. Not loved. Present tense. You love someone you've never physically seen. That's the mystery and power of genuine faith.
Think about how unusual that is. Normally, love requires some kind of tangible connection. You meet someone, spend time with them, get to know them, and love develops. But with Jesus, it works differently. You believe in Him without seeing Him physically, and that belief produces love. Not a vague religious sentiment, but real, transformative love for a person you know through His Word, His Spirit, and His work in your life. That kind of faith is actually stronger than sight because it's not dependent on physical evidence. It's anchored in spiritual reality.
And here's what that faith produces: inexpressible and glorious joy. Peter struggles to even find words for it. It's a joy that doesn't make sense to people who don't know Jesus. How can you be so joyful about someone you've never seen? How can you be so confident in promises you can't physically verify? Because faith isn't blindness. It's seeing spiritual reality more clearly than physical sight ever could. And when you see Jesus for who He truly is, even without physical eyes, joy is the natural response. Not shallow happiness, but deep, glorious, can't-quite-explain-it joy.

🙏 Prayer
"Jesus, I haven't seen You with my physical eyes, but I love You. I believe in You. Sometimes I wish I could see You face to face, but I'm grateful that faith doesn't require physical sight. You've revealed Yourself to me through Your Word, through Your Spirit, and through Your work in my life. Fill me with that inexpressible, glorious joy that comes from knowing You. Strengthen my faith so that I love You more deeply and trust You more completely, even without seeing. One day I will see You face to face, but until then, help me to walk by faith. Amen."
