💭 Commentary
Have you ever stopped to consider the extravagance of God's love? The word "lavished" here isn't about a careful, measured gift—it's about abundance overflowing. God doesn't just tolerate us or accept us reluctantly. He showers His love upon us with reckless generosity.
But here's the truly stunning part: this lavish love comes with an identity change. We're not just forgiven people or saved people—we are called children of God. This isn't a metaphor or a nice religious phrase. John adds that crucial emphasis: "And that is what we are!" Right now. Today. This moment.
Think about what it means to be a child. Children belong. They're wanted. They have access to their Father at any time. They bear the family name. They inherit the family's resources. All of this is yours because of what Jesus has done, not because of what you've achieved.
When you feel overlooked or unworthy today, remember this truth: You are a beloved child of the Most High God. That's not something you earned—it's something He lavished upon you.

🙏 Prayer
"Heavenly Father, thank You for lavishing Your love on me so extravagantly. Help me to truly believe and live in the reality that I am Your child—not because of my performance, but because of Your grace. When I feel unloved or unworthy, remind me of who I am in You. Let this truth overflow into how I treat others today. Amen."
