“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1 (NIV)
Devotional Message- Day 28
Do you ever feel like your relationship with God is based on how well you’re doing?
You pray consistently—so you feel close.
You skip a few days—and suddenly you feel unworthy.
You serve faithfully—but wonder if you’re doing “enough.”
You mess up—and feel like you have to earn your way back in.
That’s not freedom. That’s performance faith.
And it’s not what Jesus died for.
The Gospel is not: “Try harder, then God will love you.”
It’s: “You’re already loved. Now let that love transform you.”
The enemy would love to keep you trapped in guilt, always chasing a version of “good enough.”
But Jesus came to break those chains.
Let go of the pressure.
Tear up the invisible scorecard.
You don’t have to earn what’s already been freely given.
You are not an employee trying to impress a boss.
You’re a beloved child resting in grace.
Reflection Prompt
Are there areas in your faith walk where you feel pressure to “perform” for God? What would it look like to replace that pressure with rest in His grace?
Prayer
Jesus, I’ve been trying to earn what You already gave. Forgive me for striving. Teach me to live from love—not for it. Set me free from performance and anchor me in Your grace. Amen.
Closer Still – Action Step
Write down three ways you’ve been trying to “perform” spiritually. Then, next to each one, write a truth from God’s Word that reminds you: you are loved, free, and fully accepted in Christ.
